The directors role in the film
The director is the leader under a shooting and instructs actors, camera men and also influence sound and photo. The director are however subordinated the producer and the film company in financial aspects among other things.
In the beginning of the film the director wasn’t as much in focus as he later would be. An important part in this development was the auteur theory that implied that a movie reflected the vision of the director.
Many of the greatest directors in the history of film have been auteurs like Federico Fellini, Ingmar Bergman and Akira Kurosawa. There are also cases then the director has been an actor in his movies and some examples are Charlie Chaplin, Orson Welles and Woody Allen.
